Ryoko Nakajima, wheelchair activist, wanted to watch a movie at Aeon Cinema like she's done a dozen times. She shilled out for a premium seat for the extra space/comfort. After the movie was done, she required assistance getting out of the premium area. The staff told her nah and then told her to go somewhere else to watch movies next time.

The political part is that in 2006 Japan made a Barrier-Free Law designed to make things more handicap accessible. It's worked very well in a lot of urban centers, but not so much in rural areas.

At least, that's the one wheelchair incident I know of.
