We're a totally different culture, so it's not surprising we ascribe a different meaning to it.

Just accept that sage means something different to westerners than to Japanese. The alternative is to get pissed off every time you see someone using it 'incorrectly'.

Besides, it makes more sense for sage to be thought of as a bad thing, all things considered. With how fast imageboards tend to move, if you want people to see your thread, you need posters to keep aging it. To sage it means that you're taking the closest action possible to keep it bogged down. It shouldn't be surprised then when OPs feel offended when they see sages. It's like saying, 'your thread doesn't deserve to stay up, I'm going to say something without extending the thread's life'.

Of course, this is my opinion as a Westerner. If you ask the Japanese, they may feel differently. But that's my whole point.
