But I do remember all the outrage a few years ago when Pokemon started airing in my country, and people getting mad because one episode gave people epilepsy fits.
Learned recently that said episode was NEVER broadcasted in my country. People literally got mad at stuff that happened in Japan and tried to ban it all in their country.
We also have a history of considering anime and mangas to be for kids only, so some anime that aren't for kids got dubs that turned them into comedy.
For example, in Hokuto no Ken, when a character kills herself by jumping from a balcony, the local dub had the big bad shrieking for his guards to bring him the architect because he forgot to add a fence.

And I do remember the Mass Effect "controversy" (controversy is such a nice way to say "two assholes screaming) because they said you could fuck ayyys.
