Also, I know (or I guess knew, hardly talk to him) someone who got a degree in English, and started out getting his teaching credential, but then within a year decided he didn't want to do that either and so now he just sits at home and plays video games all day. That is until he figures out a job to get, I ask him what does he even plan to do and he says "I dunno, I guess an office job or something"..

I mean, even if you're very learned in English or the Arts, there just isn't much those are good for besides basically saying the to employer "Look, at least I was patient enough to sit through 4 years of school and committed enough to get a degree", because in most cases I'm pretty sure that's the only brownie point an English degree will get you.

I could be wrong of course, but then again I'm not sure what else English majors can possibly even do with their degrees besides be a teacher. Also it doesn't take an English degree to be a writer, but I'm guessing it wouldn't hurt either, having made extensive studies of what makes for quality literature.
