Something that I find interesting, and I'm not quite sure how to feel about, is the technology update to reflect the fact the VN is now set 20 years later. Nasu's done a lot of lampshade hanging about it, there's lines about how their old-fashioned uniforms were recently updated to be more modern, or how in the time Shiki's been away the Tohno house has been redone to be more high-tech. It's interesting to see how he's trying to fit 20 years of differences into the same framework. That said, I do kinda miss the late 90s/early 2000s charm of the original.
