You fail to consider the mentality behind giving money in the first place.
In your haircut comparison it is for a simple exchange of services, without paying there would be no haircut, even if you decide to give a bit more as a tip as appreciation for the work done it's still preceded by the fact that payment is obligatory.
Unfortunately money isn't required at all to participate in streams, and the idolshit mentality leads to delusions that they can buy affection and attention with money. For a sad but recent case see pic related, they're not vtubers but the same mentality stands. And I find it hard to believe anyone would sympathize with this kind of pathetic behavior
