It was nice to visit the village, but the bus fare to there and back from Takayaka was quite steep, ~4500 yen which is like $50.

I'm not sure, but one of them mentioned Higurashi right when they arrived at the shrine in this post. There was some younger fellow explaining the importance of the shrine to him for two older folk, maybe his parents.
