the solution is the same as with all the good hollywood adaptations of fantasy type material: you get a director who has his own vision for the project and who is competent enough to figure out what will work and wont in that format. it's just cultural in japan at this point to try to make it as 1:1 as possible and it doesnt work. but they wouldnt do it if it didnt make money so it is what it is
