In a recent thread (about how AKB48 was the new fascism) somebody posted the link below, which says that normal Japanese people have close to no interest in any culture at all. They don't buy music, they don't buy books, they don't really care about what kinds of clothes they wear. And TV is getting less popular.
To what extent should I take this seriously? The text seemed respectable and legitimate, but it is difficult to imagine a people that goes by without anything.
I'm not so young that I wouldn't remember a childhood without a computer available at all times. I am not perplexed at how people in the Middle Ages could pass the time without playing any VN. But even they had music. Even they, as far as their budget would allow them to, would attend operas and theaters and participate in culture.
What the fuck do the Japanese do?
