Okay, /jp/, this is something that's been bugging me.

During my lessons in moonrunes, I learned that "Nihon" is "Japan" in Japanese.

How the hell did we get "Japan" from "Nihon?" Why don't we just call it "Nihon" too? Don't countries get a right to name themselves?
