It's a huge missed opportunity in Higurashi that Ryukishi never expanded upon the "connecting fragments" part.
I like it as it is, but imagine if he had put scenes from actual chapters in it. Like the real events at the end of Onikakushi where Keiichi bashes his friends heads open, or the conversation between the club girls in Tatarigoroshi once they realized that Keiichi will murder Teppei. Or maybe even Rika's torture in Watanagashi, as brutal as that would've been in the final chapter.
That'd turn the fragments part into a 10/10 for me.
