Dogs are only good when they're actually useful; if I had a dog I'd want a German Shepherd or something (really any sheepdog is a good choice). I don't know why anyone would want a small yappy dog, hounds have the problem of baying at the moon and pissing off you and your neighbors at night (although basset hounds are pretty cool), big but useless dogs are just food vacuums.

I'll never understand why labs are so popular; shepherds are just as friendly to their owners, and actually protect them instead of trying to play with the guy breaking into your house.
