No one hates Hijiri. The ones who think they do do not understand her character at all. Her themes are love and trust. Everything about her has been plainly stated by ZUN, which is that she is a wholly good person who just wishes to give love to those who wish to be loved: everyone. It's natural to both trust and doubt Hijiri as ZUN made her out to be a mystery where a few different interpretations can exist, much like the rest of the cast (Reimu being one of the biggest examples). And these two interpretations are made by different people: those who desire love, those who scorn love, and those confused by love.

Basically, ignorance is the reason why Hijiri Byakuren is hated. Only those who do not understand Love cannot process her wishes.

Do not disregard people; please understand them.
Doing so will bring light to this entire world; world peace!

Humans and youkai can coexist if there was an attempt on both sides. Remove the specific names, and all you get are a group of people vs another group of people. It's not different from the conflicts of the current world. Humans distrust each other too and Youkai are capable of hating one another as well. I think people have the ability to compromise if they start acknowledging that everyone feels the same as they do.

If someone is capable of love, then I believe they are a person. Whether they are "human" or "youkai," I believe they are a person. If they desire to love and be loved, then they are a person. True monsters are those who have forsaken love, choosing not to understand anyone. They hurt others just to take. They hurt others just to destroy. Both humans and youkai are capable of such a thing. They are equal in both love and hate.

If both people surrender themselves to love, then there can be understanding. With understanding comes a willingness to apologize and forgive. And with forgiveness, the opportunity to accept one another arises. And once two people have accepted each other, then love will surely flourish.

There is no need for fear and misunderstanding.
