Back to the topic at hand, while it does feel like studying a bit of the kanji meaning goes a long way. I does also feel like its what you're meant to do with Anki, or at least tone down new cards/review so that you can focus on each one a bit more.

Makes me wonder why there isn't a more ordered study where you get to see most single kanji and then mixing them up in words.
While at that, anyone knows how to use this study feature of tagaini jisho?
