Military training is slow, but for marksdwarves just make them hunters (and make sure to put them on civilian duties so they actually hunt), it's pretty effective at raising their skills and you don't have to micromange it.
For the rest, attacking wild-animals will train up a dwarf lot faster than ordinary training, but since your dwarves will just chase in a linear manner they'll spend so long chasing them it's hardly worth it, unless you trap them and set up some kind of arena to level them up in.
