Pic related combined with the Sotsu (卒) "leak" in October has had people wondering the last few weeks whether or not there might be more than just the 24 episodes confirmed by the BD listings. There's also some people who don't think 3 (or 4 last week) episodes is (was) enough to properly end Gou. A subgroup of those think Gou will connect to the greater WTC series in a fairly explicit way, and that could well fill a full cour of its own.Finally, there's a Higurashi panel at Anime Japan the weekend after " Gou 25" airs, and who knows what they might use that for.

In short, one of the biggest trolls Ryuu-chan has done with the new Higurashi series is making sure the audience has no idea how many episodes it actually has. Which, to be fair, has made the theorycrafting and speculation a lot of fun.
