In the dark, he could make out a silhouette of... something. He couldn't tell exactly how big it was, but from the overall shape it looked somewhat like a bear or another big and scary thing. He didn't care about that, though. All that he cared about was that it was staring into his open cooler, where he kept all of his prized Coke and Twinkies.

"Hey!" he shouted at it, hoping that it would get startled and run away.

The thing stopped and looked at Marcus with red eyes, allowing the cooler to drop as it turned and started towards him. He twinged with brief panic, but was able to keep his cool as he loaded a bullet, pulled the bolt forward, took aim at its feet, and fired.

"EAAAAK!"

The creature roared as it dropped to the ground. It was hard to aim in the dark, and he conjectured that he must have hit its leg. He looked at the thing, pitying it somewhat as it lay on the ground.

...

That wasn't a roar. That was a scream, like the one a girl would make.

"Oh, shit."

Marcus cursed under his breath as he reached for his lantern and strode to the fallen monster. Within the light, it was far less terrifying. It looked very much like a girl, it body being both thin and curvy in all the right places. However, at the same time, it womewhat resembled a dog. Its nude body was covered in matted white fur, it hands and feet were paw-like, and its face bore a hound-like snout and ears. Its red eyes were now blue, and looked towards him with a mixture of fear and pain. For now, however, he was less concerned about the fact that it (or perhaps she) was attractive, and more focused on the fact that it had a bleeding hole in its leg.
