>All during the summer of 1945, this captured Frank fighter S-17 was test flown against the best U.S. and Allied Fighters. During these test, it was found that the Frank would outclimb all allied aircraft including the P-51D Mustang. It was more maneuverable in turns and even outperformed the Spitfire which had a high reputation in this field. These tests continued until late 1945. It was decided that since Frank S-17 was still flying and performing above expectations, to send it to the United States for further tests against the latest U.S. fighters coming off the production lines.

>In this evaluation program, the Frank was comparable to the P-51 Mustang and P-47 Thunderbolt. Although the P-51H and P-47N had a slightly higher top speed, the Frank climbed to altitute faster. The Frank was more maneuverable in turns and will turn inside either the P-51H or P47-N. The control forces were also lighter than those of most American aircraft. The range of the Frank was found to be about the same as that of the P-51H. This is of noteworthy fact, in that the P-51H was one of our longest ranging fighters at the end of WWII. In evaluating the frank with the Zeke 52, it was found that in addition to having a higher top speed, Frank had less vibrations at comparable velocities.

>It is interesting to note here that in all the long hours the Frank fighter was flown, under all conditions, no serious faults were experienced with the airplane, American test pilots rated it as the best Japanese aircraft produced during WWII.
