That's your problem.
Higurashi was mostly about his characters, it's a very characters centric tale and i think R07 did a really good job with them, some storylines were quite excellent (Shion story was heartbreaking)

It's not perfect, it has a silly, but at least satisfying, solution and some bad writing/very repetitive stuffs, but it's a very pleasant journey in the end.

The answer is: Bern and Rika are two separate entity in the end, with different personality, powers, and intention.
"Our" Rika doesn't have anything to do with Umineko Bern.

Higurashi strong point is the cast, and it's a shame that the animu ruined it.
