I really enjoyed the battle system in AT1 when I played it and really lamented that it was wasted on the nonexistent difficulty level. At first glance, the battle system in AT2 seemed like a step backwards, but after getting accustomed to it, I'd agree in concept it's a more interesting system that ended up being a lost opportunity due to lack of challenge.
