She's also the only character to have actual character development in the mainline games. She starts out as an arrogant outsider in MoF, but gets her shit kicked in by Reimu, then returns in UFO as a more humble person who eventually develops into the person you described. She's maybe the most definite example of a major character introduced during the post PoFV-pre DDC era. A character intimately tied to the setting through her backstory, relationships and circumstances with a stake in things happening around her that get her involved in multigame plots.
