I too was disappointed by the lack of dekunda/silient prayer in a lot of the bosses. Since the game straight away tells you how to get Alice you can start fusing a team of debilitators that take the threat out of pretty much any boss in the game in three turns. Not Mastema though, that fight was worthy in every single way. I wish he was a little less fragile so he could be a useful summon. We'll see if he maintains his place in my stock for my Neutral run.
