What's the difference between 未だ　(いまだ) and　未だ　(まだ)

And are both of these always written in Kana? Why the fuck are there Kanji for words that are written in Kana? And why is it so difficult to get a fucking actual answer from an actual fucking japanese speaker on a website used for language exchange? They're always like "oh yeah that's correct.."
