How much do you think the quality of the translation detract from the quality of a VN?

I just finished several routes in Clannad and so far I quite like but goddam is the translation awkward.
Feel like I would like it far more if it actually had a good translation.

Kotomi's. Of course I was already spoiled by the anime, but I felt her route was still better portrayed in the VN, not least because it was more romantic.

Second would be Fuuko, then Yukine's routes.
