What's retarded about it? You have 2 cranes to evenly distribute the weight of the destroyer, and the space vacated by the useless heavy turrets should allow for nearly a dozen seaplanes. And the heavy armor would keep her fairly safe if an attack occurred while DDs were being replenished.

The idea was to re-use parts from a Hiyou kit I accidentally... However her flight deck isn't really as big as I had hoped so there could be room for something stupid like a normal funnel just sitting on the side. And obviously I'm keeping the casemates, how else would people know she's a convert?
