However, it is bad for memory, and encourages laziness in people who are already predisposed to it, such as those with depression. Frequently it is used as a coping mechanism and will be used for self-medicating. This can lead to psychological dependencies. You won't go physically cold turkey from going off of it, but you could easily become irritated, depressed or otherwise have a bad time. It's pretty easy to get off if you're clean mentally, but if you're dependent, chances are you weren't okay to begin with. Also it is bad for the development of young people, affects memory.

Like many things in life, it's a matter of judgement and responsibility. Which is unfortunate, because those without judgement (developing teens, etc) are the ones most likely to mess around with it.
