made it in 3, nice.
------------------------

She feels better, really. After being kidnapped by the strongest youkai in Gensokyo and having THE cryptic talk, it's nice to just go to the middle of the woods and repeatedly smash a weak youkai's ribs with your foot. Spellcard rules deliver no such satisfaction. With a clear mind, I make my way home, the moonlight punctuating my path and serving as a great distraction from all the questions and doubts the conversation with Gap Youkai screwed into my head.

... Gah! Fuck her! Woes upon that woman! Sulking, I open my house's door, expecting a reserved plate of food for myself and a quiet household; only the latter is there to welcome me. Wide-eyed, I don't even take my shoes off at the genkan, staring at the utter mess; pans everywhere, the table and chairs flipped over, a pan on top of the stove gurgling, the kettle halfway empty, the water evaporated... I go up there and turn off the fire, just for the sense of fear that accompanied the last ten perplexed moments to suddenly explode into euphoria: on the ground, scratch marks, as if someone was dragged against their will and tried to claw away with their nails... And they go up to Dad's roo--

DAD!!

Teeth bared and pupils tiny like dots, I run up to Dad's room, the door slightly ajar, and open it without thinking, expecting a man-eater Youkai or something, ofuda prepared, and an until now unknown sense of urgency. What I see inside, however, stops me in my tracks.

A gap, like Yukari's... I look at the gap, and a thousand eyes stare back, chilling my spine and murmuring to something profound inside my psyche. I ignore it in favor of looking at the ground, a cold lump growing inside my throat: the scratch marks, now bloodied, follow to the bed, bits of blood right beneath the gap.

I don't know Yukari. She's a mystery in itself, her actions even more, all veiled in confusion, smoke, and mirrors. Speaking to her was like talking to a brick wall, but trying to understand her actions... Is this a sick way to get us back to Mother? Kidnapping dad?! I feel an urge to cry, but like the fear, I swallow it.

Marisa's words echo in my mind: 'Choose wisely your battles.' One thing is harassing a youkai in the forest or having a Danmaku battle with a retarded bird...

... Yukari is...

My hands open and close, and my legs feel like jelly.

Then came a surge of fire. So what if she's the strongest youkai in Gensokyo? So what?! It's my Dad, the only family -- true family -- I have. I cannot lose him; I cannot become like her...

I ignore the thought and, finally mustering any possible grain of courage inside of me and leaving no time to chicken, I rush inside the gap, jumping in it like its water. The sensation is weird, and unlike water, which has stop power, this gap has gravity. Even though the gap itself is fine and thin like a sheet of paper, it pulls me down with might, and I feel naked as ten thousand eyes follow my drop. It takes two or three seconds -- too much, simply too much --, before I finally land, rolling across the wooden floor with a groan of pain, breath shallow.

I stand up, trained reflexes kicking in, ofudas in between my fingers, and eyes wide to follow any rapid motion, blood pumping with adrenaline...

Yet, nothing prepared me for what was happening in front of me.
The first thought in my mind is:

"Mother...?" A thought I naively say out loud.

After all, Mother isn't blonde. Mother is also not an entire head taller than me, and Mother doesn't have breasts of that size either. Shocked beyond words, it finally dawns on me: That's not Mother. Sure, the woman parades in my lineage clothes and colors, but she's not a Hakurei. The woman has her back turned to me, standing upright, her hair hiding her face, towering above a chair... Whatever was on the chair, I could not see. The blonde laughs softly.

"Ah, our sweet daughter has arrived. So good to have a family reunion." I should've known instantly; the gap was a dead giveaway, but I still felt surprised.

What the hell is Yukari--

Then Yukari moved to the side, exposing the chair to me.
