Goslings and Lars didn't beat each other, they achieved synthesis. The vast majority of Goslings have accepted the idea of collective love, but not individual, vs the original fight of individual love vs no acceptance. Synthesis created the tamed Goslings we see today, who express love for Ame, but not an expectation of personal love.
The original Goslings were stuck in K's past, with a desperate need to be special. After Synthesis was reached with the Lessons of Lars and the need to appreciate yourself, Goslings shifted to the end of K's arc, where he learned that what is important is not personal love, but what the memories of artificial love can inspire you to become.
