Ryuukishi isn't an excellent artist, but he makes effort to make different characters different, and he can do it.

However, he somehow drew Shannon and Kanon's faces with almost same parts.

Ryuukishi's art skill isn't excellent, but in Umineko, he has made different characters have different faces, than most of otaku-ish illustrators.
But, somehow, they strongly resemble each other.
