adding to that guy, if you like using instant death, use Sakuya's Killer World to increase effectiveness. Beware of enemies who use instant death, though. For obvious reasons.
Satori's Wail and Youmu's Dance of Shadows (katana passive) also inflict instant death. Buff them up with Byakuren and reap their souls.

The one downer: many enemies are resistant/immune to instant death...
