you can watch without a VPN by using mpv or vlc. I'll download the episode and put it on my vern site (if it comes back) for safe keeping.

I was looking at yt-dlp's TVer extractor code this morning.
https://github.com/Lesmiscore/yt-dlp/blob/a3396de8dc555a9f7442eb3aadb550bb22963956/yt_dlp/extractor/tver.py
I don't totally understand what it's all doing, but judging from line 39 it looks like TVer stores its videos on a site called brightcove: https://www.brightcove.com/ja/
And I'm guessing that line 89 is setting some sort of parameter to "JP" to trick the server into thinking the request is made from a Japanese client.

Anyways, I wonder if adding "live/simul" to the regular expression on line 14 is enough to get it to play the volleyball stream urls like this one:
https://tver.jp/live/simul/lenmjzb9y9
Interesting that "tokyo2020" is in that regex. That makes me think they were able to watch TVer's olympics streams, so maybe it is possible to get it to play the volleyball tournament streams.
