Why after all these years, is Sengoku Rance the only translated game I've enjoyed? Am I missing out on other great releases or will I never find another great game?

A quick question, /jp/- is there any way to increase the 30 commander cap in Sengoku Rance? I know it's a little powergamey, but I don't care- I just don't want to dismiss anyone, especially the girls who (for some reason) love Rance.

I was just looking for a nice game with a good plot and some ero scenes now and then... not "The Impossible Eroge"

I was wondering if this game has a turn limit, I was thinking of goofing around in the dungeons because it has come to a point where all my troops can't finish a faction/fortress battle without running out of flags.

That's the only thing that worries me right now.

Any other VNs that have strong enough gameplay elements that they could stand on their own?
Or does it stop being a VN at that point?

I was looking for a patch to version 1.04, but it seems it has been taken down from the official website. However, I THINK I read something about the 1.01 translation patch from Yandere Translations automatically patching the game to 1.04. Could anyone confirm this for me real quick?

Also, is there an in-game tutorial or should I just start looking up guides and such? Never played this before but I hear some factions as hard as tits.

Can any of you guys give me some pointers on how to beat it? I think I'm doing something seriously wrong.

I just started playing Sengoku Rance and I simply can't stop for like 15 hours now. Though I did restart the game a bunch of times since I suck.
Anyway its an awesome game, but what other games do you recommend from Alice Soft?

Sengoku Rance thread

I'm actually currently on my fourth game through and playing 2-star (first True, second Ran, third Isoroku), on turn 18 and I've got Takeda down to their last castle, but GODDAMN I CANNOT BEAT THE GENERALS' SUICIDE CHARGE. I can't remember how I did it before (but on Isoroku route, I beat the Blitz and managed to recruit all but Yamagata, who WOULDN'T BE HIRED BY ANYONE FFFFFfffffffffuuuuuuuuuuu).

Sup /jp/, first time here, was wondering if you could help me out. I seem to be having trouble installing Sengoku Rance. First of all, I don't know what I'm supposed to do with the .ani file, as no program opens it and it's in moon runes. Tried downloading Applocale, keeps giving me an error saying a required program to install it isn't present, won't tell me what. Tried installing the English patch to see if it'd do it for me, as /a/ suggested, but it's telling me to insert a DVD. Any ideas?

Recently, after a couple of tries, I finally beat my first playthrough of Sengoku Rance. Had no points to do anything fancy in the next playthrough, so I did a one star Ran route and actually beat it without any trouble. Ended with 98 points total, dunno if that's good or not for two clears.

Now I'm trying a two star Isoroku and I'm getting my ass kicked. WITH Omachi. I ran over all my neighbors pretty easy, but now I'm fighting Uesagi on turn 24 and it's a pain in the ass. She's got a lot of units with over a thousand troops while I'm putzing around still with most units around 500 after blowing all my cash to make Ranmaru and Shibata battle permit users. I'm putzing by with Omachi (basically cheating but hey it's in the game!), but I worry that soon that's not going to cut it.

What am I doing wrong, /jp/? Also general Rance thread or whatever.

So, think I need some help here /jp/

Its my first game, and I am trying to get Hojou Souun, first I just took his castle, but then Ran killed him, then I tried taking his castle and capturing Ran at the same time, then Rance killed him.

Finally, I captured Ran, did the two events, and stormed the Oil Caves, I got to the bottom, saw the whole thing down there, and suddenly, I can't figure out where the hell Souun went.

Was I not supposed to bring Ran down to the bottom of the caves? Is it even possible not to bring her down to the bottom? I've checked every province, and not seeing a "Recruit Souun" option anywhere. I waited a few turns, and he still hasn't just randomly appeared to join me either. Heck, I even reinvaded the Oil Caves thinking he might still be down there, but nothing is coming up.

What do /jp/? You seem to know more about this game then anyone.

So we all know the plot, the sword getting fucked by blacksmith women, ect.

But is Sengoku Rance actually a good game, /jp/? I've recently been reminded of it's existence, so I have to ask if it's actually any good or if it's just a pile of shit with rape on top.
