Yeah, that's probably where both of these names were derived (and "spoonwood" too, since the botanist who first collected the plant was apparently told that Native Americans make their spoons out of it). This has been disputed, since kalmia wood is poisonous and using it as an utensil is probably not very sane, but maybe there's some merit to the idea, since the similarly toxic rhododendron honey is eaten as a psychedelic in some parts of the world.

And as an aside, I like how オオオニバス and オニバス being distinct plants means that this parody by Moneti may end up being real after all. Lavender already holds the "loli yandere" spot, though, and she holds it well.
