Actually I'm glad you did, since you included something I missed. Perhaps not cooperation, but the Elder Things would probably be at least willing to consider peaceful coexistance. If only they got over how we are supposedly descended from their slaves and all.

When you think about it, Mountains of Madness is a rather unusual Lovecraft piece. Shadow Out of Time too paints the aliens in a sympathetic light, but only the Elder Things are shown as having flaws and painting themselves into a corner that parallells human thinking of the time - as Lovecraft himself put it, "they were men".
