When you're judging singers, you get into really fucking wild territory.
There are people who just judge because of their personal tastes, and that's fine, but it leads to intense shit flinging.
You can judge based on measurable qualities, like range, pitch, qualities in the voice that are objective and can be compared, but then you enter a different question. Technical adeptness is not the same as quality, and people try to use technical skill as a barometer for "quality," when that isn't the same thing. I can think one singer has intense skill, but prefer a rookie with a voice that resonates with me.
At the end of the day, trying to discover who is "better" at singing is only ever going to result in a personal answer. You may be able to find out who has the most skillful singing in an academic sense, but that won't matter when it comes to who is better for you. It's derided, but it really does come down to soul compatibility.
Hell, you can tell this is true because of how people react to it in regards to context. People who know a person's background enjoy their singing more than people who see just a song without context. And exposure helps, too. There are people in this thread right now who genuinely enjoy listening to Noel's KING cover now, because the exposure to it and context of that exposure gave them more enjoyment than they would hearing it without context.
Subjective rankings of singers is playing a poker game with a faceless deck. You can say your cards are higher, but so can anyone else, and the only result is that you both go bust.
