In China at least, people over 40 interpret teenage boy's room full of pictures/figurines as "he's obsessed with women" and a lack of dating as "he's obsessed with women but he's being responsible and waiting for a family." They just think you're either refraining from dating sluts because you're waiting for a modest marriage, or secretly dating without their knowledge and being discrete about it.
