I think the reason most people don't really like the later Episodes is that it pretty much takes what we thought we knew about the family's character and toss it out the window making them act in more cruel or kind ways. It be similar to saying that by the time we reached Matsuribayshi Satoko was acting like an ass or something similar. I never thought I would see Kinzo be a kind man who cared about his grandkids but that was pretty much the point of the lesson Ange learned in the end. And while it makes sense for HER story it drags down the rest of the story for the reader since we aren't ange and especially if you don't like change.
