I don't think that's weird. I love the fact that they have manes. The fur probably soaks up all their pheremones and any sweat which might run down her face or neck, so just getting a whif of it would be like overpowering your mind with her raw smell.
One of the reasons I like hellhounds, too. I bet their little fur tuft smells all spicy.
