You're speaking as if a thread is on the front page for a minute or two (longer if it's late night) somehow has a detrimental impact on the board. It does not.

There is no right or way to use it. You simply ue it to bump threads or not.

It can't be considered wrong to express a negative opinion using it towards to the OP if it's something that does achieve that purpose. It is like saying that me saying someone is "dumb" is wrong because the word was originally meant people who lack the ability to speak.
