You can easily know a trans person all your life and not know they're trans. Functionally for any meanginful way in which you'll ever interact with them, it makes no difference. They are a woman. This is why the paranoia over "men in disguise" is so silly, because there's no point when the ever actually drop back into being a man - that's the difference between transsexuals and crossdressers. There are all kinds of intersex conditions that make the absolute binary version of sex meaningless anyway.
