The cups were brought out and Marisa poured out a drink for her and dad. She took a sip. “Ah, it’s good! Really glad I remembered I had this. You want some Hana?” I shake my head. “No thanks. I’ll just make some tea” I say. I wasn’t really in the mood to find out what sake did to me at this moment. “Maybe some other time then” Marisa said as she knocked back her first sip. As I rummaged around for the tea leaves and pot, I heard Marisa start to tell a story. By the time I had brought everything to a boil she was already a good ways in “So when I get there, Kanako throws an entire pillar at me” “No!” Dad interjects “Yes, an entire pillar. It would have killed me if I didn’t block it with my magic. If I were a normal human, it would have been messy. I don’t care how scared you are, you’re not going to explain that away easily. So anyway, despite putting up my best fight, I got captured by them….” I poured myself a cup of tea and sat down.

When Marisa finished, they were on another round and dad had a story of his own. “So they hired me as part as a crew to help do some renovation on the one of the Hieda farms. Nothing too major, but it would still take some time. So we had to take over a horse cart full of supplies to do our work. When the time comes to leave, it starts to rain. You remember the big washout they had a few weeks ago, don’t you? That was it. So the road is too flooded to cross and everyone is annoyed because they want to go home. So one of the workers on the farm comes up to me and says ‘There’s a road just a bit that ways. It’s a little bumpy, but you could avoid the washout that ways I think’” Dad suddenly decided to put on some accent I couldn’t place for the farmworker, but it sounded dumb. “So me and another guy get in the cart and start to drive it over the road he pointed out. It wasn’t even a road. We were rattling and bouncing around each time the wheels go over a bump, we were so sore. Then we see there’s a huge ditch in front of us. Without a word, the other guy gets the horse to turn around and head back to the farm. We had to wait another hour for it to die down, but it was better then crossing that road” Marisa snickered at the story and another round was poured. Then another. The bottle was a good deal lighter when the topic of romance came up.

“So you’re not going back to her, have you thought about getting someone else? You totally should, you know” Marisa slurred. “I’ve heard you might be Gensokyo’s most eligible bachelor” My ears perk up a bit, where could this be going? I found myself very interested in what his answer would be. I could use this information.

It took a while for dad to answer “I’ve thought about it, and I’ve had some, uhhh, women talk to me about it but it never went anywhere” he managed to say “It is nice to get attention but I'm still trying to figure it out. I got so used to being married that I kinda get lonely not having a wife around. It would be nice to find one, expect she doesn’t beat me or anything. Is that weird, it seems weird” Dad finishes up his cup.

“Noooo, not at all!” Marisa responds. “You should just try it out, you still have a chance! You found someone once, now do it again! You can even tell the bad ones from the good! That’s called experience! She poured herself yet another drink. This girl could drink the strongest men under the table. I wasn’t sure if that was admirable or not.

“Thanks, I’ll do it” dad says with the confidence that only a drunken man can achieve. If he would actually remember it in the morning is another thing. “So what about you? Did you ever find someone?”

Marisa groans “Nah. I never did. I put that off as I always felt like I had more important things to do. Magic ‘an shit. I just assumed I had all the time in the world to try it out, but I got older, and older and now I’m here” she confesses. “It would be too hard to start now. Nobody wants a forest hag that is more into mushroom collecting then love” Marisa mopes.

“But you’re still pretty!” Dad comes to the recuse “Ah thanks, I guess I am” “And you got a great personality!” Dad keeps pushing further “Huh, I might” “And you’re smart enough to work things out!” Dad say as he reaches the end goal. “Yeah!” Marisa says. “I’ll do it!”

I guess things were heated enough for me to leave. “I’m going for a walk, be back soon” Both of them muttered out for me to stay safe as I went outside. It was late enough that the moon was out, but there were a few places still open. I had one place in mind to kill an hour or two.
