Hecate made her first appearance in "Theogony" (~700BC), and that makes her the oldest Touhou character from real-life chronology's perspective. The second oldest woulde be Junko, mentioned for the first time in "Tianwen" (~200BC).

Majority of the "old" Touhou youkais are really only as olds as Kojiki (712) or even younger. That makes them Mokou's contemporaries.

Yes and no. LoLK's boss songs are longer to compensate for this fact, apart from Clownpiece and Junko this isn't really an issue, and those two songs are pretty good (though Pure Furies is nowhere near Little Princess).

The biggest problem is not that people have been forced to listen to the songs for long periods of time (extra bosses have always done this), the problem is that stage songs keep getting restarted. Faraway Voyage is a fantastic piece and it syncs incredibly well with the stage but Stage 5 is so fucking brutal that you'll be restarting the song dozens of times, diminishing its value.

Anyway OP is being a cynical. A lot of things have changed since the "classics" but ZUN's music quality never lost its touch. Not even in TD.
