I think one prevalent problem with self-hating diaspore chinks is that they love animu so much and look at the great aesthetic success of japanese culture, and feel bad about why China nowadays isnt like this. They then construct some imaginary historical narrative, wherein China of the olde-time isnt like the dirt-filled 3rd world shithole it is today, but something more like some bigger and better Japan, full of aesthetically pleasing culture and arts and muh !notBushido honor, because, apparently, The Water Margin and Three Kingdoms is so full of that stuff and thus it has to be correct.

In reality, China was never like Japan. China was always a dirt-filled shithole, ruled by tyrannical emperors, who on the one hand killed anyone who stood before them, but on the other hand, coundnt combat official corruption to safe their own lifes. Quite literally. This lead to a culture that was surprisingly libertarian and was dominated by corrupt local officials who took big cuts from the laissez faire economy in turn, because it was the most lucrative.
Chinese arent Japanese and will never be. China isnt a honourable warrior-culture, but a creepy corrupt merchant culture. It was always like this. China was always dirty and was filled with masses of half-starved peasants and absolutely corrupt merchants and government officials. If China wasnt like this, they wouldnt have over 9000 dynasties one after another, each of them in power through violent and genocidal revolutions and rebellions, but just one single dynasty that has lasted thousands of years - like Japan. Because that single dynasty did nothing bad or corrupt warranting a violent overturn by the starving and oppressed people.

And if we assume that Hong Meiling really comes from old China, she would feel quite at home today in the PRC.

PRC is original China. Literally nothing has changed. To the good and to the bad.

Thus, Meiling would actually feel pretty good and quite possibly become some le ebin merchant from southern china, scamming whitey tourists with fake sneakers and bribing the local officials to get ahead in business. She literally do not even have to learn anything about the modern world to live in today's China. She literally only has to do as she did during Song, Ming, Qing etc. era.
