I can accept that the 'soul' is a thing in MGE, but there's nothing KC says that suggests that monsterized women have 'corrupted' souls, or that 'corruption' is a thing that can happen to souls. Since KC doesn't have extremely weird opinions about the (fake) 'real' women in his setting, and also doesn't seem to think there's anything wrong with men marrying monsterized or even human women in his setting, he probably wouldn't ever write anything which suggests that they have 'corrupt' souls or whatever, so if we're engaging with this in a strictly MGE way, it still doesn't make sense to say that.

It's less about manipulating thoughts and more about quelling certain emotions. Fear and pain are things that cause humans a lot of distress, which monsters don't like, so they have spells which can dampen those feelings.
