I checked their distribution on Wikipedia, and they're mostly concentrated in the USA/Mexico, so they may have natural tan skin just because of the warm climate. I intended to use tan skin mostly because they live in wooded/rocky regions. Their fur is salt and pepper on their backs/tails, brown on the legs, with only the muzzle and underbelly being white. I figured that in human form, that would equate to ashen hair, and brown skin, so they could camouflage themselves and ambush humans more easily. Something like pic related?
Besides, tan would be a nice contrast with all the pale kitsune pictures out there. Porcelain skin is pretty, but chocolate skin is tasty.

Interestingly, it also seems like they're monogamous and mate for life. Made for monsterization!
