well obviously its us who defines words but say we came across an alien that wasnt carbon based (is carbon based even a requirement for life) or he had lots of what we consider to be inorganic or living matter
like a robot except natural
maybe a tank that can talk

why would it not be alive

i dont think its fair to say to the world `hey world you arent alive because you have too many rocks'
obviously people with clothes are just people in clothes
but why should we get to tell the world what is and isnt alive
