Who's to say it's wasted? Other people? Myself? How is having children a sign of a fulfilled life? Can a person achieve success in their field of work and find love without having children?

As said, the only purpose in life is to enjoy life while you can and be happy. If having children makes you happy, then so be it. But you don't need a bullshit excuse like the fate of the country or a feeling of duty to make you believe that your actions are worth more than what they are.

When you're old and no longer able to have children, you just have to accept your decision.

Lord: it is time. The summer was immense.
Lay your shadow on the sundials,
and in the fields let the wind loose.

Bid the last fruits to be full;
