It's just a quicker way to look up stuff without a computer. I'm bad with phones and I've been annoyed looking up kanji one too many times.

Compared to new phones probably nothing. It's just a matter of preference really.
My phone is really old and I hate studying on it, this thing seems a lot quicker for me especially looking up kanji. It recognizes my sloppy writing pretty well and it doesn't seem to care about stroke order/amount which is nice.
I got it fairly cheap as well.
