I think that's false equivalence, while quaternaries/secondaries often latch on to the most popular characters and games, of which a good chunk of EoSD's cast fulfills, there are non-EoSD characters that often end up in the same pool and spread an uninvested fan's taste out a bit, but also it is completely possible and does happen that more versed touhou fans can still pick EoSD and it's cast as their favourite game/characters, maybe preferring the simpler unflourished mechanics, or the rough cuteness of the art and it's watercolourish looks and olden style
