Karaagetarou's comics are what made me fall in love with touhou. Cute, funny, and surprisingly poignant. It's hard to pick a favorite but "Chirei de" is probably the most complete narrative.

I think Karaagetarou's 'Chirei de' would be a good introductory work, at least for the SA crew. It's been a while since I read it but I think all background knowledge needed is given within the story itself.
IIRC the only ambiguous part to newcomers would be the identity of Kanako and her motivation for helping Okuu and Orin but that knowledge doesn't really matter within the scope of the story.
